Firstly, Hello! I’m Lucy and I’ll be chief blogger of The Wedding Shop. Unfortunately I can’t promise daily posts, probably not even weekly as we’re always a little bit busy and our main aim is to spend time with our brides, as that is what we love and, frankly, what keeps us here. However, I will promise to give you a bit of insight into the personalities behind The Wedding Shop and keep you updated with what’s going on and any fun and exciting things come our way.
There will also be guest blog posts from several excellent wedding gurus in fields such as photography, planning, catering , cakes (yummy!), flowers - anything really. Also, if you have any requests please let me know on lucy@the-wedding-shop.co.uk I’ll be happy to help with any planning queries, it’s all part of the job description.
So, I’ll start with a little get to know you…
Maggie (my Mum) started The Wedding Shop way back in 1994 in the ground floor of our family home. I was only 14 at the time and though that this was really uncool as this was previously where me and my brothers had enjoyed parties with friends etc. However, after several unplanned visits from eager brides wanting to try things on (invariably in the middle of our family Sunday roast or similar), Mum decided to move the growing business into the centre of Alderley Edge village where we had grown up. I’m happy to report that full partying was reinstated at the house!
In the meantime I went on to go to university and on completion started to apply for several corporate banking internships. After a few months of limited success and boring temping jobs I came to work for Mum on a temporary basis. This partnership quickly became established as ‘The Future’ and we now own and run the shop jointly. We are very different in many ways and that can be a real help when buying next year’s collections or helping out different brides, and in the same breath we are startlingly similar. It’s a bizarre combination but we think it works!
In September 2007 I had my very own wedding which was excellent fun and really helped me to understand what brides really want form their dress shopping experience. My wedding dress and veil were designed by Mum and I and made by Myring Kesterton. I loved absolutely every minute of wearing it and wouldn’t change a thing.
In March this year we took the bold step to move into a larger premises, next door to the old shop. We now have 6 members of staff and three wonderful dressmakers and all of the new brides have welcomed the change, which is still evolving.
In the next few months we are hoping to create a separate fitting suite and a whole floor of sample dresses available for brides who want a designer dress but have a limited budget, have a very short timescale, or simply for the bargain hunters among you. We are also going to be working on our new collection of Bridal and Bridesmaids dresses - Baci.
